Hey, I’m Katelyn!

I was born and raised in Richmond, VA where I attended the Chesterfield Technical Center for pastry and my love began. I gained my formal training at Johnson & Wales University gaining degrees in Baking and Pastry, Culinary Arts, and Food Service Management graduating Summa Cum Laude. I have worked in many bakeries and restaurants which include the Williamsburg Lodge, Great Wolf Lodge Concord, and Baku Restaurant. I moved to Morrisville, NC to pursue teaching for 5 years at The Chef’s Academy in Culinary and Pastry Arts. My company began as a small home based business 15 years ago. My dreams to expand came to life in October of 2017. From that small dream just to make cakes. My life has grown into being a wife, a mom, a teacher, and a business owner. I would love to make a custom cake for your special event so they can be as special as mine were. Don’t hesitate to shoot me an email or give me a call.

Where It Started

From enjoying caramels, fudge, and pizzelles with her grandmother at Christmas time, to custom birthday cakes made for her by her mother every year, Katelyn’s love for baking began at a young age. She went to a vocational school for pastry to see if she liked it and ended up excelling at it. Her love for baking went from a childhood passion to a real life business. After years spent working in the industry, Katelyn finally decided to pursue her dream of owning her own pastry and cake business.

Where It’s Going

Now, in 2023 Katelyn and Capital Cakes have settled into a home in Northern Durham with enough space to bake tons of cakes and teach classes 1 on 1 or in groups for a party or team building. The business is still continuing to grow, but it's the end result: seeing the final product of a show stopping centerpiece at your event that makes it all worth it. Capital Cakes is here to make your wildest cake dreams and pins into reality.  Your special day should be just that, special.
